Reiki is a spiritual practice and alternative therapy that originated in Japan in the early 20th century (though some believe that Reiki has ancient origins and has made its way through India, Tibet and Egypt in various forms). Reiki uses energy healing to balance the body, mind, and spirit. The body has a life force energy that flows through it, and when this energy is disrupted or blocked, it can lead to physical and emotional imbalances.
Reiki aids in rebalancing by clearing and improving the energy flow through the body's seven major energy centres known as chakras. These chakras are linked to various organs and systems. By directing Reiki energy through these chakras, a practitioner can eliminate obstructions and irregularities, fostering healing and overall wellness.
How does it work?
Reiki enhances the flow of life force energy or chi. Chi is an energy that lives in every being and gives us vitality, health, and well-being. Reiki practitioners bring in universal energy and transfer it to their patients through a series of hand placements on or near the body. The energy is intelligent and will flow where it is needed most to clear blocks and ease energy flow to promote healing and well-being.
Reiki is commonly utilized as a supplementary treatment in conjunction with alternative and conventional medical interventions to enhance the body's natural healing capacity, alleviate pain, decrease stress, and induce relaxation. This non-invasive therapy does not involve physical manipulation or medication. Reiki can be beneficial for individuals experiencing any of the following conditions:
Reduce anxiety and depression: Studies have found that Reiki sessions reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Relieve chronic pain: chronic pain can be difficult to manage with traditional medical treatments. Reiki is effective in reducing pain and improving mobility in individuals with chronic pain conditions.
Improve sleep quality: Sleep disturbance can exacerbate other symptoms such as anxiety and depression. Reiki has been shown to improve sleep quality and reduce insomnia in individuals with sleep disorders.
Promote relaxation and stress relief: Reiki can help to promote relaxation and reduce stress levels, which can have a positive impact on overall well-being.
Enhance spiritual well-being: Reiki can help individuals connect with their inner selves and promote a sense of spiritual well-being. This can be particularly beneficial for clients who may struggle with feelings of disconnect or disassociation from their inner selves.
Mind-body-spirit balance:
Reiki is amazing for general balance in emotional, spiritual and physical health. If you are on a healing journey and feel stuck, Reiki may be the treatment you need to clear the energy blocks to healing.
What happens during a Reiki session?
During a 60-minute Reiki session, you will be encouraged to remove your shoes and lie down on the treatment table to relax. The session is conducted with your clothes on, and you will receive a comfortable pillow, a warm blanket, and any necessary bolsters to help you ease into the environment. Calming background music with healing frequencies will be played to promote relaxation. You will experience a gentle touch as I place my hands on your head, shoulders, abdomen, knees, and feet, channelling universal energy to you. Alternatively, if you prefer, I can offer a 'no touch' Reiki by hovering my hands close to your body. Additionally, if needed, I may utilize tuning forks that vibrate at a specific healing frequency.
You may feel a range of sensations during a Reiki session, including warmth, tingling, or a sense of deep relaxation. Some people may notice the release of emotional or physical tension, while others may simply feel more centred and calm with improved sleep afterwards.
